Velos Youth

Velos Youth is an organization from Greece that since 2017, supports displaced unaccompanied
children and young people aged 16-23 to restart and rebuild their lives in Athens, Greece. Velos Youth Centre provides a safe space where young people can build connections with each other leading to improved safety and social integration. The centre is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals including a lawyer, psychologist, social worker and livelihoods officer. Velos Youth has developed strong partnerships, and has been the lead organisation for several partnership programmes designed to support displaced youth access education, employment, psychological services and the asylum system in Greece.
Velos Youth Centre is the first youth centre for the specific population in Greece, and has consistently raised recognition of this age group’s unique needs. Through its networking, more stakeholders (such as local businesses and humanitarian organisations) are developing opportunities for youth integration in Greece. Velos Youth has established a broad network with over 100 organisations and groups on the basis of common advocacy with the shared value that self-reliance is the desired outcome. Velos Youth’s contribution to the project would be multifaceted: to provide access to young people with lived experience of displacement, to support in designing training modules tailored to the needs and wishes of the specific group and facilitate the training sessions at the organization’s day centre.
